Our Learning System

Our programs are deliverd through instructor managed and computer-based training within the Academy of Learning local College Campuses.

The Integrated Learning Systemtm (ILS) is an instructor managed, self-paced method of computer-based instruction and learning. Each new step builds upon those already mastered; focused on showing instead of telling, thereby allowing students to progress one step at a time until they have completed each exercise unaided.

  • Students do all of their course work, exercises, and simulations at computer workstations located at the Academy of Learning school; all in a quiet, supportive, and non-threatening atmosphere, consistent with the principles of adult learning. Audiovisual instructions are used to explain concepts and to guide the student through some initial skill-based applications. There are ample opportunities for practice exercises, as well as applications, exercises, and simulations that are featured in the course workbooks.  Media clips are created to supplement information in the workbooks and manuals.

  • Should students have a question or encounter any type of difficulty while completing the self-paced modules, they can repeat a lesson or call on the Facilitator/Mentor The Instructor is always available to provide individual counselling until questions are answered or issues resolved.  Then, when the students are able to fully comprehend the task, the exercise is continued, ensuring that the participants know exactly what to do at every level and point of their program.  As a result, instructors, although not used in the traditional teacher-directed front-of-the-classroom sense, are always available for help and feedback.

  • As all ILS courses are competency-based, students must successfully complete lesson exercises in order to proceed.  Students must then successfully complete a final exam.

  • Since this approach ensures that courses are self-paced, students can progress at their own rate, within reason.  As such, the lesson time allocations are presented simply as guidelines.  In other words, some students will take more time than is allocated while others will take less time.  Student progress is constantly measured to ensure that the student will complete the program within the contracted period of time.  However, students who are receiving financial assistance must complete a mininum of 20 to 25 hours per week.
